Dr. Carmen Castellano was born and raised in the St. Louis area, and currently resides in West County with his wife Susan and their four sons; Joseph, Eric, Nicholas and Paul. All four of his grandparents immigrated from Casteltermini, Sicily. His parents, Madeline “Lee” Cunetto and Joe Castellano, grew up on the Hill and each went on to operate businesses there, Lee a beauty salon with her sister and Joe a barber shop with his brother-in-law. Carmen and his sister Jo (Brockhaus) were raised in Brentwood before the family ultimately moved to South County where Carmen attended Lindbergh High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.

In 1982 Carmen joined The Koetting Associates, a full service eye care practice specializing in contact lens care. He purchased the practice from Dr. Robert Koetting in 1986 and has operated the business under the same name in the Brentwood area. Recognizing the importance in giving back to his field, Dr. Castellano has been very involved in his profession over the years on a local, state, regional and national level.

He has also long recognized the importance of giving back to the community and is currently the chairman of the sponsorship subcommittee of the Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis Golf Tournament. In addition he has supported numerous organizations including; the United Way, Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure, Art St. Louis, Young Catholic Musicians, The Backstoppers, The Adoption Exchange, Therapeutic Horsemanship, Foundation Fighting Blindness, the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Association, St. Louis Alzheimers Association, the National MS Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association, Young Life, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as well as numerous other local school, parish and community events and causes.

Dr. Castellano has had a soft spot in his heart for the Italian Open since his father and uncles participated in those very first outings nearly forty years ago. He has managed to participate in the event nearly every year going back to the early 1980’s.
